One Third Of Americans Ignore Danger Of Global Warming

The Yale Program On Climate Change Communication has released a paper titled “Majorities of Americans think global warming is affecting extreme weather events.” The good news is that between 52% and 64% of Americans believe that extreme weather is an effect of climate change.
The belief is across a broad spectrum that ranges from wildfires to drought and flooding. However, there are still a large significant number of people who don’t make those connections. “Many Americans do not understand that global warming is affecting extreme weather events, particularly extreme heat and sea level rise.”
Furthermore, there is a divide among the weather events Americans attribute to global warming. The figure is high for “temperature-related events.” These include drought and high temperature. The number is lower for “moisture-related events,” which include hurricanes and floods.
Link Between Warming And Weather
The fact that a large number of Americans do not see a link between global warming and disastrous weather events is staggering.
Among the reasons why the “believers” belief is growing is that desperate human disasters are so heavily covered by the media. This is true among those Americans viewed as left or right leaning.
The consequences of the research are obvious. The fewer people who don’t believe in the link between global warming and weather means that clean energy, public funding support, and mitigation are less likely to happen.
