Best American City To Own An EV Is In California

The popularity of EVs has slowed. Tesla posted poor sales last quarter, and Ford can barely sell EVs. Among the reasons are the cost of buying an EV, the number of charging stations, and how far an EV can go on a single charge. There are a few places in the US where EVs are extremely popular and where at least the changing station problem has been solved.

A new study shows that San Jose is the best city in which to own an EV. It is also one of the highest-income cities in the US and has extremely expensive residential real estate.
Realtor.com put together its list of best places to own an EV based on EV-friendly homes (those with charging ports in their listings) and charging station data from Cox Automotive. The authors of the study expect EV sales to pick up again. Realtor.com economist Jiayi Xu commented. “There are so many government policies to support electric vehicles, including rebate programs. These are incentives for people to buy the vehicles and then there is higher demand for at-home chargers.”
San Jose
San Jose has extremely expensive homes, with a median price listed in March of $1,481,000, almost three times the national figure. “EV-friendly” listings were 4.9% of the total, which is still relatively low and may need to increase sharply to push EV adoption. There is a charging port for every 24 cars.
Eight of the top 20 cities listed by Realtor.com are San Francisco, LA, San Diego, Fresno, Riverside, Oxnard, and Sacramento.
